Get answers to common queries about Greenfields Waste & Recycling

What size skip bin should I hire?

The size of the skip bin you should hire depends on the amount and type of waste you need to dispose of. Our mini bins are great for small clean-ups like garden waste or minor home renovations. Medium bins are suitable for larger projects like office clear-outs or renovations, and large bins are ideal for major construction work or large volumes of waste. If you’re unsure, our team can help you estimate the right size based on your description of the waste.

How long can I keep the skip bin?

Typically, our skip bins are rented out for periods ranging from a few days to a couple of weeks. Standard hire duration is one week, but we can arrange shorter or longer periods based on your specific requirements.

Can I put anything in the skip bin?

While our skip bins are versatile, there are some restrictions to ensure safe and responsible disposal. General waste, green waste, and builders waste are acceptable, but hazardous materials like asbestos, chemicals, batteries, and tyres are not allowed. Please consult our complete list of accepted and prohibited items for guidance.

What happens to the waste once it’s collected?

All waste collected in our skip bins is transported to our recycling centre where it’s sorted. We recover recyclable materials and process them accordingly, while non-recyclable waste is disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner, minimising landfill use.

Do I need to be present when the skip bin is delivered or collected?

You don’t necessarily have to be present, but please ensure that the delivery area is clear and accessible. If specific placement instructions are needed, it’s best to be there to guide our team. For collection, just make sure the bin is accessible and not overloaded.

How do I prepare the site for skip bin placement?

Choose a flat, stable surface clear of overhead obstructions like power lines and tree branches. Ensure the location is accessible for our delivery trucks and does not block public pathways or infringe on private property without permission. If you plan to place the bin on a street or public land, you may need council permission, which our team can help you arrange.
